When one-year-old Lucy video calls her “Papa Dan” she plants an exaggerated baby kiss on the screen and says “Mwah!”

She has never met her American grandparents in person.

Their relationship is being forged over FaceTime. Not by choice, but because visits are simply not possible.

The ABC first met Dana and baby Lucy just after the peak of the coronavius pandemic in Brisbane last year.

Australia shut its international borders weeks before Lucy was born.
