When coronavirus cancelled our overseas trip, we travelled 8,000km across Queensland

They say the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.

What the old Scottish proverb neglects to mention, however, is that even the strangest of situations can make for the most memorable adventures.

You see, back in February, my partner and I — like many Australians — were in the midst of planning an overseas getaway.

It all seemed simple enough in theory: we’d land in Brazil in early December and travel through South America for a few weeks, before rounding out the trip at a music festival in Argentina.

We started in Brisbane and travelled to the Cape, before making our way out west.(Mapbox)
