The new “stand” rule, who benefits most from longer quarters being back and more: we run the rule over the AFL pre-season.

With the delayed finish to the 2020 season because of the COVID-19 hiatus, the pre-season ahead of the 2021 campaign was considerably shorter than usual, with many players only returning in the new year.
It meant that pre-season setbacks were exacerbated, with less time for players to recover from niggles than they would ordinarily have.
