What is the ‘safe harbor’ deadline, when is it, and what does it mean for Donald Trump’s US election chances?

In true 2020 form, the road to electing a new US president has been complicated and drawn out.
Enough states have now certified their results to hand Joe Biden a clear victory.
However, President Donald Trump still refuses to concede, and continues to pursue increasingly vague legal challenges to try to overturn the results before they are finalised.
So when is this all going to be over?
December 8 is the ‘safe harbor’ deadline
This is the next key date in finalising this process.
It’s basically the full-time whistle for states to complete recounts, resolve any legal challenges and certify results.
This has to be done six days before the electoral college casts its votes on December 14.
