Westpac’s board is tone deaf – The Australian Financial Review
The bank is not just going backwards in terms of women in its executive leadership team, it now has the lowest percentage of women on its board of any bank in Australia.
Second, they send a message to the customers, shareholders and regulators, about an organisation’s values and its purpose. Westpac says diversity and inclusion are a priority but this latest move raises doubts about that.
One female chairman says Westpac has helped reignite a conversation about diversity and inclusion that started and ended 15 years ago.
Westpac now has the same number of women on its board as it did in 1998.
