Wedding preparations almost turned tragic for Tim and Kym

“I did try to keep calm, I did try to tell him (Tim) I was there, but he was unconscious obviously but I told him I was here and it would be all right.
“I didn’t realise how bad it was actually until I did see him … we’re very lucky.
“I just kept asking if he was going to die.”

The wife-to-be was asked to ride in the chopper because Mr Smith’s upper body and head injuries were serious.
He was flown to Brisbane, where he spent several weeks in a coma and four months in the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Ms Smith was told by doctors her future husband would either not recover or be in a vegetive state.
“I just had to keep going for (our child) Hudson,” she said.
