Zinedine Zidane has hailed Gareth Bale’s “spectacular” contribution to Real Madrid following his loan move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The 31-year-old was an increasingly marginalised figure under Zidane as Madrid won La Liga last season, cutting quite the contrast to his goalscoring turns in the 2014 and 2018 Champions League finals.
An apparent breakdown in relations with his coach has been accepted as the main reason for Bale seeking an exit from the Spanish capital but, speaking ahead of the start of his side’s La Liga defence at Real Sociedad, Zidane insisted there was no personality clash.
