Disagreements over moving away from the current Super Rugby format have boiled over after New Zealand Rugby went behind Rugby Australia’s back to try lure some of its local teams to be a part of its competition next year.
Both Australia and New Zealand have been public about their intentions to adopt a new format moving forward, with the latter the first to release what exactly their ideal competition would look like.
While not committing to a set number of Australian teams, NZR CEO Mark Robinson said last week that their preferred 8-10 team competition would include Australian teams with the possibility of all five Super Rugby clubs taking part.
