Former US vice-president Walter Mondale, a Democrat who lost a presidential election to Ronald Reagan in a landslide after bluntly telling voters to expect a tax increase if he won, has died aged 93.

Mr Mondale’s family said he died on Monday (local time) in Minneapolis.
