WA Liberal leader Zak Kirkup reveals depression diagnosis as Opposition colleagues offer support

Western Australia’s recently appointed Opposition Leader Zak Kirkup has revealed he was diagnosed with depression last summer.

The 33-year-old said he had been treated for the illness and believed it was an important issue to be open about.

“I think it’s important that we shine a light on this and talk about this without the stigma that’s often attached,” he said.

But Mr Kirkup did not reveal what triggered his illness.

“Depression for everybody is a very personal experience,” he said.
