In a statement to the ASX, gold miner Saracen Mineral Holdings said it appeared the underground worker fell from a height while working at the Dervish underground mine.
A full investigation has been launched by the company.
The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) acting director mines safety, Graham James, said inspectors have arrived on-site and the department’s investigation was ongoing.
The condition of the worker is not yet known at this stage.

Dervish is one of several operating mines at the Carosue Dam gold operations, 120 kilometres north-east of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
The Royal Flying Doctor Service was involved in transferring a patient from Carosue Dam to a private hospital in Perth on Friday, but the incidents are not believed to be linked.

The contractor has been contacted for comment.
