WA bushfire victims speak of agony of fleeing home, but are thankful for ‘amazing’ firefighters

For many people across the growing fire zone in Perth’s north-east — not knowing if their house, their belongings, and often their horses, chickens or other animals have survived the blaze is incredibly hard to bear.

They are full of praise for the firefighters doing everything they can and putting their own lives in danger for their properties. And they are tapping into their community and social networks to find out what they can.

But sometimes there is just no way of knowing.
