Vigilance urged as Qld falls short of self-imposed COVID testing target

Queensland health authorities, including Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young and then-Health Minister Steven Miles, announced earlier this year they had set an aspirational target of 5000 tests per day.
That was the level, Dr Young explained at the time, at which she would feel comfortable that enough testing was being done to pick up any cases of community transmission.
But in recent weeks the level of testing across the state has started to decline, falling into a pattern of peaking mid-week before dropping off by the weekend.
Mr Miles has previously explained that because there are fewer people with respiratory symptoms of any kind, there are fewer people getting tested.
