Victorian olive producers revel in best season to date

The olive harvest is in full swing and many Victorian producers are celebrating their biggest and best crop to date.
Key points:
- Heat ruined a promising olive crop in Victoria last year
- Growers are working 20 hours a day as they reap one of the best harvests to date
- The harvest has come early this year — producers usually have to rush to beat the winter cold
Peter and Marlies Eicher have been producing the bitter fruit for more than two decades on their property in Boort in Central Victoria.
After a failed crop last year, the pair were gobsmacked at just how many olives are on the trees.
“It’s truly amazing,” Ms Eicher said.
“We’ve estimated these trees will probably have in excess of 50 kilograms of olives per tree.
