Victorian hotel quarantine program not following healthcare infection control standards
Victoria’s beleaguered hotel quarantine program was not following the same infection control standards drawn up by a PPE taskforce, which were being applied to the rest of the state’s health system.
Key points:
- The PPE taskforce said in December that anyone in quarantine should be considered “high risk” and treated as if they have coronavirus
- The PPE required for such cases includes N95 masks, gowns and face shields
- The Australian Medical Association’s Julian Rait said the same standards should apply to hotel quarantine whether there were confirmed cases or not
In April last year, a PPE (personal protective equipment) taskforce was set up to advise the state’s health system on how to protect against the spread of COVID-19.
