Victorian government appoints Sir David Carruthers to oversee Lawyer X royal commission recommendations
A former judge from New Zealand has been appointed by the Victorian government to oversee the implementation of all of the recommendations made by the Lawyer X royal commission.

- Legislation to provide the Independent Monitor with the necessary powers will be introduced to Parliament later this year
- Sir David Carruthers is a former judge who ran the New Zealand Independent Police Conduct Authority
- An independent counsel will review the files of 11 sources not dealt with by the royal commission
Sir David Carruthers is a former chair of the New Zealand Independent Police Conduct Authority and former judge of the New Zealand family and youth courts.
He was knighted in 2009 for his service to the District Courts.
