Victoria Bridge pedestrianisation could feature a South Bank-style arboretum, Brisbane’s council hears
Pedestrians crossing Brisbane’s Victoria Bridge could enjoy a walk through greenery, similar to the South Bank arboretum, under a proposal being considered by Brisbane City Council.
Key points:
- Victoria Bridge was closed to general traffic on January 24
- Brisbane City Council wants to put shade over the pedestrian path

As part of its $1.2 billion Brisbane Metro public transport project, the council closed Victoria Bridge to general vehicle traffic in January and began the process to convert it to a “green bridge”.
The bridge will eventually have a two-lane cycleway, a wider pedestrian path, and bus lanes.
