City ‘likely to be on national watch list within days’, warns public health chief
Birmingham’s infection rate has more than doubled in a week – with more than 300 new cases.
Director of public health Dr Justin Varney said it was likely the city would feature in the national “watch list” of places most at risk of intervention within days, with no sign of the current rise in cases easing off.
There have been 321 new cases in the past week.
“We could very easily be in a situation like we have seen in Leicester and Greater Manchester,” he said this morning.
