Urgent review of WA hotel quarantine begins after COVID-19 positive worker

Authorities are urgently examining airflow in every quarantine hotel in Western Australia in the wake of last month’s positive COVID-19 case.
Key points:
- The review will assess ventilation in all of WA’s quarantine hotels
- An occupational hygienist and mechanical engineer will examine all sites
- Some hotels may be deemed suitable, but with some rooms retired from use
Case 903, a hotel security guard working at the Four Points by Sheraton Perth, contracted the highly-contagious UK variant of coronavirus, sparking a five-day lockdown in Perth, Peel and the South West.
Professor Tarun Weeramanthri is conducting an independent review into WA’s hotel quarantine system and said the results so far highlighted the importance of ventilation.
