University of Queensland staff call for end to spill and fill of academic positions

University of Queensland staff are calling on the university to halt its “spill and fill” of positions as they fight anticipated job losses in the School of Architecture.
Key points:
- UQ School of Architecture staff are fighting the disestablishment of 20 positions
- Academics are concerned there is no guarantee all staff would be employed under spill and fill
- Consultation and feedback was sought from a range of stakeholders over many years, UQ says
Academic staff within the School of Architecture have written to the university urging them not to “disestablish” all 20 positions and instead seek expressions of interest for voluntary redundancies, part-time appointments or pre-retirement contracts.
This would allow the university more flexibility…
