Mr Byres’ comments are the first official confirmation of a report by The Australian Financial Review in September flagging the unwinding of the $243 billion CLF.
He said APRA originally “fought hard” a few years ago at global regulator forums to have the CLF included in the international Basel III liquidity coverage ratio rules when Australian government debt was relatively low.
