Twelve National Guard troops removed from US presidential inauguration duties after security vetting
Twelve members of the US Army National Guard have been pulled from duty at president-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration after vetting by the FBI.
Key points:
- The National Guard’s chief said 10 members were removed for potential issues not directly related to the inauguration
- But two anonymous officials said all 12 members had ties to right-wing militia groups or had posted extremist views online
- It is unclear whether the National Guard members will face further disciplinary action
National Guard chief General Daniel Hokanson said two of the 12 were sent home because of inappropriate comments or texts related to the inauguration.
No active plots against Mr Biden were found.
