The EnergyConnect project ticks all the boxes for a modern, well-functioning electricity network. It will provide greater network stability, cheaper electricity for households, help decarbonise the economy by bringing more renewables into the system, and will create 1500 jobs during the construction phase.
But it would be a mistake to think the promised top-line benefits mean the NEM is functioning efficiently in response to market forces.
