On stage 2 of his very first Grand Tour, the 22-year-old Swiss rider finished second behind Julian Alaphilippe (Deceuninck-QuickStep) after getting in the stage-winning move. That was impressive enough. Then on stage 9 Hirschi put in a big solo attack that very nearly went the distance.
