Today’s #ThrowBackThursday begins in January 1901 when the City Ambulance Transport Brigade (CATB) in Brisbane approved an honorary centre to be opened in Cairns. With the expansion of honorary centres across the state, the CATB was renamed to the Queensland Ambulance Transport Brigade (QATB) by the following year.

It is assumed the honorary centre in Cairns was quickly terminated, however in 1904 Mr M J Hogan from Charters Towers QATB arrived in Cairns looking to re-form an ambulance…
