Last month, Australian Border Force officers in Sydney intercepted two shipments of helical gear drives containing a large quantity of methamphetamine concealed inside the gears’ thick layers of steel. Further investigation by the Australian Federal Police, Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission and the NSW Police Force Drug and Firearms Squad, led to the arrest of a 37-year-old Newcastle man charged with importing 230kg of methamphetamine – with an estimated street value of $143 million AUD.
