Third person, a man in his 30s, dies in ‘treacherous’ Gold Coast waters

“They noticed a gentleman who was in distress in the water, struggling to get back in,” she said.
“They made an immediate rescue and brought him back to the shoreline.
“It was an unknown male aged in about his 30s. At the time he was back on the beach, he was in cardiac arrest.”
Lifesavers began CPR as they waited for critical care paramedics to arrive.
“They put a lot of effort in, for about half an hour, but unfortunately, the gentleman was declared deceased at the scene.”
Ms Shearman described the surf as “treacherous”, with beaches experiencing massive swells of up to 2 metres, generated by ex-tropical cyclone Lucas.
