First it was TikTok, now a proposed $US40 billion deal by America’s Nvidia to buy a chip design company will create new tensions between the US and China.

The combination of Nvidia, which makes the chips needed for artificial intelligence algorithms and graphics chips, would create a new dominant force in the global chip industry, giving it control over the Arm blueprints that are ubiquitous throughout a range of industries and used by many of Nvidias own competitors.
