The suburb of Windsor was named after Queen Victoria’s home, Windsor Castle. Lutwyche was named after Judge Alfred Lutwyche who built the first house in the area, Kedron Lodge, in 1860. Wooloowin is the Indigenous word for fish. While the Indigenous People did have individual names for various fish species, the collective word for all fish was Wooloowin. The origin of the name Kalinga is uncertain, and may be derived from the mountain province Kalinga in Luzon, Philippines, which had large US military bases nearby.
