The rise and fall of Queensland’s LNP Leader Deb Frecklington
Deb Frecklington has fallen from the LNP’s top job after announcing she would stand aside as Opposition Leader following a bruising electoral defeat. So what was her path to the exit?
Deb (short for Deborah) Frecklington was elected to the Queensland Parliament in the Campbell Newman landslide of 2012.
Her seat of Nanango, about two-and-a-half hours drive north-west of Brisbane, is a rural electorate dotted with little towns like Esk, Kilcoy, Cherbourg and Kilkivan.
It is also one of the most conservative electorates in Queensland, and was once held by another political leader — the National party’s Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen — Queensland’s longest-serving Premier (1968-1987).
