Mark Winterbottom flew under the radar to equal his best race result for Team 18 in the opening race at the Repco Mt Panorama 500.
Winterbottom started ninth alongside teammate Scott Pye for the 40-lap race, with the latter taken out of contention after early contact.
The 2015 champion made his first stop on lap 8 under full course yellow conditions, and emerged in 11th.
