The Perth Hills bushfire destroyed their homes, now residents must decide where their future lies

Almost two weeks after Lisa Walker’s Tilden Park home was one of the first destroyed in Perth’s devastating Wooroloo bushfire, it is still sinking in.
“It’s the past, it’s not the future and it was cathartic to come back and see there was absolutely nothing inside,” Ms Walker said, as she walked around the blackened remains of her house.
“But there’s a few bits and pieces outside thankfully.”
Large granite boulders which surround the home and a small nearby stream first attracted her to the property 33 years ago.
It was her passion to live so close to nature, with Kookaburras, different types of lizards, echidnas, and, on occasion, wild emus.
“Paradise”, she used to call it.
