The owner of Cockatoo Island, near WA’s Yampi Sound Defence Training Areas, denies links to Beijing
The Hong Kong-based company which has secured a 12-year mining licence on a remote West Australian island, next to a military training ground, insists it has no links to the Chinese government.

- The company reaffirmed that it is not owned by the Chinese government
- Documents submitted to the ASIC say its directors live in Australia, India, Hong Kong as well as mainland China
- The company’s lease for the island is due to run out in 2032, according to Western Australia’s Department of Mines
Earlier this month the ABC revealed concerns within defence and government over last year’s decision to approve the lease on Cockatoo Island, despite its proximity to the Yampi Sound Defence Training Area.
