The best memes from the 2021 Oscars
Considering the state of the world, we were always willing to forgive the 2021 Academy Awards (the first ones held ever during a global pandemic) for coming across a little clunkier than normal.
The format we’ve become used to year after year—a glittering ceremony at Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre, attended by countless rich-and-famous folk—is no longer for the time being, and this year was replaced with a (much) smaller and more personable ceremony at Los Angeles’ Union Station, closed to the general public to make for the event. Guests came in fewer numbers and sat socially-distanced, and for the most part, the ceremony had a much more intimate vibe that invited at-home viewers to feel as though they were one with the show.
