The 9.30pm text message that destroyed the beaches’ hopes of a big summer – Sydney Morning Herald
From a food and music festival to a restaurant that suffered a fire on top of lockdowns, it’s been a bleak summer for businesses along the northern beaches.

“In reference to the news surrounding the COVID cases on the northern beaches,” the message read, “you need to hold fire on opening Market Lane Live tomorrow. Ill touch base with you in the morning.”
And with that the hopes of a bumper summer of trade began to crumble.
Up and down the northern beaches, word was spreading about an outbreak of COVID-19 in Avalon, first a handful of cases that now numbers 144. At bars, restaurants and beauty salons, bookings were being erased.
