The 12 scams of Christmas: Remote access scams

With the festive season nearly upon us, ‘tis the season for online scams.
The Financial and Cyber Crime Group are reminding Queenslanders to be aware of Grinch-like scammers and be sure to stay alert to scams, such as remote access scams.
Our advice is simple – never ever allow anyone who calls you to have remote access to your devices.
If you receive a phone call out of the blue about your computer and remote access is required – hang up – even if they mention a well-known company and sound quite professional and insistent.
Never give your personal, credit card or online account details over the phone unless you made the call and the phone number came from a trusted independent source.
