The sire of star Kiwi galloper Te Akau Shark has died following a short battle with illness.
Windsor Park Stud confirmed Rip Van Winkle, the son of Galileo, had passed away aged 14 (northern hemisphere time) after siring 31 individual stakes winners, including Kiwi star Te Akau Shark.
Rip Van Winkle proved to be a versatile sire during his stud career, producing Group I winners from 1200m up to 2400m.
