Sydney’s new smart motorway aims to end ‘stop-start’ traffic – Sydney Morning Herald
The first aspects of a $600 million technology upgrade to Sydney’s M4 motorway have been switched on to improve traffic flow.

This is about using technology to make sure we can avoid accidents … to make sure congestion flow is smoother, he said.
Its a stop-start affair, we want to put an end to that.
Mr Constance said the government planned to upgrade the entire Sydney motorway network with similar technology in coming years.
