Sydney to Gold Coast? Dees in the dark over likely hub shift – AFL

MELBOURNE has already moved into one hub, and midfielder Christian Petracca says the Demons are prepared to shift to another if the AFL sends them to the Gold Coast.
The Demons, who have been based in Manly in Sydney the past two weeks, will take on Brisbane at Metricon Stadium in the round eight fixture that was released on Monday.

Some clubs believe more teams are set to be sent to the Gold Coast for extended stays, with the prospect of players spending more than the originally slated 32-day period away from Victoria. 
Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that the remainder of Melbourne’s playing list would join the 33 players already in the Sydney hub, with a view to playing more than the originally scheduled five games in five weeks.
Petracca, who has been Melbourne’s most consistent player this season, said the Demons are in the dark about where their next block of games could be after this round’s clash with Hawthorn in Sydney.

“We’re not sure yet. All we know is that we’ve got Hawthorn this week and we’ve got Brisbane next week at Metricon,” Petracca said on Tuesday.
“There’s a lot of work to be done behind the scenes and the club’s done an amazing job at filtering that information to us. At the moment we’ve just got to put our mind on Hawthorn this week.”
The Demons and Lions are sharing the same hotel in Sydney before they depart for Queensland after this weekend for their round eight meeting.
Petracca said the possibility of having partners and families able to get to Queensland would be a boost for some players while away from home, with a number of Demons already with their children for their Sydney stay.
“If guys are struggling or if they’re not in a good head space, I think it’s really important for the players to get their partners or their family up there,” he said.
“[Football manager] Josh Mahoney and the club have done an amazing job of providing that to make an environment that’s like a little family.
