Victory over Wellington means the Sky Blues now only require one point from their remaining five games to lift the Premiers’ Plate.
Wellington had one penalty claim waved away and another late goal controversially disallowed as they slumped to a late loss that surrenders their faint hopes of a premiership.
“Sometimes it happens in the game, they make calls that dont go your way. Sometimes they make the wrong decisions,” Phoenix coach Ufuk Talay said. “I am very happy with how we played, I think we were the better side and I dont think 3-1 was a fair result.”
