Traces of the COVID-19 virus have been detected in two separate sewage catchments in NSW – one of which comes from Sydney.
Health authorities say it is likely the fragments come from people who have previously had COVID-19, who are shedding the virus weeks after their recovery.
However, health officials say it is equally as likely that the fragments could indicate undetected cases in the community.
One affected sewage catchment is from northern Sydney while the other comes from the NSW south coast.
