Westpac chief executive Peter King painted a picture of a sharp turnaround. Employment has returned to pre-COVID-19 levels, business and household balance sheets are strong, and consumer and corporate confidence has returned.
Indeed, so upbeat is the outlook that the first morning of the Summit was dominated by the return of the great Australian barbecue stopper soaring house prices.
There does not seem cause for immediate alarm. Nor, though, for complacency.
