Students at Brisbane new inner-city state schools from outside catchment zone despite enrolment pressure
More than half of the students enrolled in the foundation year at two inner-city state secondary colleges reside outside the designated catchment zones, despite the campuses being built to alleviate crippling enrolment pressure at nearby schools.
Key points:
- The new Brisbane South State Secondary College has opened this year with 203 students, 65 per cent of which are from outside the designated catchment area.
- Fortitude Valley State Secondary College opened in 2020 with 55.5 per cent of students outside of catchment, which reduced to 46.5 in 2021.
- The Education Department says out-of-catchment enrolments are expected in the foundation years of new schools with well established schools nearby.
