Sporting spat sees cricket club evicted after digging up oval – Brisbane Times
Two east Brisbane community sports clubs are at odds over the decision to dig up contaminated land at C.P. Bottomley Park.
But Coorparoo Cricket says the rugby club had approved the work, even sending letters to the council supporting it, and tests proved there was no contamination.
Coorparoo resident Marc Fidler, with the help of local Labor councillor Kara Cook (Morningside), began a petition calling on the council to stop the eviction, claiming the eviction was an excuse to kick out cricket from the oval permanently.
“The idea that we would purposefully damage the grounds we love is ridiculous,” Mr Fidler said….
