Corals with genes that allow them to better adapt to warmer seas are offering hope that some endangered reefs may be able to survive global warming, a study found. 
Researchers from the US and Australia sequenced the genomes of 237 colonies of reef species on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef during the bleaching event of 2017.  
Coral reefs are dying at an alarming rate as water temperatures rise worldwide as a result of global warming, pollution and human activities, researchers explained.
