Sniffing out COVID-19 – detector dog research and trials underway
Eleven detector dogs from the ABF’s National Detector Dog Program Facility in Victoria have begun their training at the University of Adelaide as part of a joint venture into determining the feasibility of training COVID-19 detector dogs.
The The University of Adelaide School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences is coordinating the Australian arm of an international research in collaboration with dogs and handlers from Australian Border Force, @DeptAgNews, and SA Metropolitan Fire Service
COVID-19 detector dogs could potentially provide an efficient, reliable and complementary screening method as part of a future suite of biosecurity strategies in Australia.
