“For me, over the next few weeks I won’t be able to have an impact on field, but I will be doing everything I can to help my teammates out, to prepare for the games coming up.
“Whatever I can do in meetings, on the training track, I will be there to help out.
“My actions two weeks ago, I know I have affected everyone at the footy club and everyone that supports the footy club outside.
“[I will] try and get back all the trust from not only my teammates and everyone at the footy club but also all the supporters out there.”
The Magpies released a statement saying Sidebottom had formally apologised to his teammates, football staff and the “broader club” in Western Australia on Sunday. There was no mention of Sidebottom’s place in the leadership group being up for review.
“This was the first opportunity to discuss face-to-face with Steele his actions on the night following Collingwood’s round four match against Greater Western Sydney,” a Collingwood statement read.
“Further, Steele agreed to complete a responsible consumption of alcohol course and to commit time in the service of a charitable or community organisation over the next 12 months. He will commence this service as soon as circumstances and the coronavirus protocols allow.
“The club now considers the matter closed.”
