Severe thunderstorms hit south-east Qld: 73mm in 30 minutes

As storm clouds blanketed the Brisbane CBD late on Tuesday, severe thunderstorms forecast for south-east Queensland had dumped more than 70 millimetres of rainfall in some regions.

The Bureau of Meteorology warned that just before 5pm severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near Redbank Plains, Wacol and Greenbank, moving towards the north.

The Brisbane inner city, Upper Brookfield and Enoggera Reservoir were expected to be hit by 5.20pm, while the storms were expected to reach Strathpine, Boondall and Lake Samsonvale half an hour later.

Strathpine, Kallangur and Dayboro is expected to be hit by 6pm and Caboolture, Mount Mee and Wamuran by 6.30pm.
