Severe thunderstorms, heatwave set to descend on south-east Queensland

“We are expecting temperatures to change by about 1-6 degrees from tonight [Monday] onwards, but for a number of places, temperatures will remain at or above average for the interior.

“With a trough moving into eastern Queensland [on Tuesday], we will see an increase in shower and storm activity, particularly around south-east Queensland.

“Severe thunderstorms are possible. If we do see severe thunderstorms develop, they could be potentially damaging winds, heavy rainfall, even potentially large hail.”

Ms Hoff said the south-east should generally see 5-10 millimetres of rain from Tuesday’s storms, with the chance of falls of up to 15-20 millimetres directly under the storms’ paths.
