Channel Sevens special documentary Murder in the Outback proved a ratings hit over the weekend.
Bumping Big Brother out of its Sunday timeslot, the special feature that aired on the network last night saw a whopping 1.03 million viewers tune in, according to TV Tonight.
The true-crime special follows the story of the now infamous outback murder of British backpacker Peter Falconio and dives into the trial of the man convicted of the crime, Bradley John Murdoch.
It would seem that the true crime genre is translating across the board on free-to-air TV in Australia, with Vera beating out 60 Minutes with 626,000 viewers and FBI: Most Wanted attracting a 336,000 audience.

But Murder in the Outback wasnt the only hit program on the Seven Network last night, with 7NEWS still remaining at number 1 with 1.24 million viewers, followed by Nine and The Sunday Project.
It comes after Sevens Big Brother premiered with a bang last month, immediately out-rating The Voice and MasterChef.
Sevens reboot of the original reality blockbuster was the number one entertainment show for the night of June 8, along with becoming the number one launch for the network since 2018.
It also got people talking with the #BBAU hashtag ranking as the most talked about topic on Twitter in Australia last night.
The reality TV shows return marks the first time it has aired on Australian TV screens in six years, after first being introduced to Australian audiences back in 2001.
In Perth, the eviction was the number one entertainment show for the night, with 112,000 watching.
